Maintenance Planner / Scheduler

UTMC, a family-owned 110-year-old company, is the long-term industry leader in refrigerated semi-trailers and North America’s fourth largest semi-trailer manufacturer.  UTMC has six manufacturing factories – five in various states within the United States and one in Mexico -- and a research and development facility in California.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop, plan, and schedule preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Coordinate daily, weekly, and longrange maintenance schedules with maintenance, operations, engineering, and facilities teams.
  • Create detailed job plans including labor requirements, work steps, safety considerations, tools, and required materials.
  • Ensure all planned work is properly scoped, prioritized, and ready for execution (work packs, permits, parts availability).
  • Track job progress, closeout quality, and schedule compliance; adjust plans based on operational needs.

MRO Procurement & Supplier Management

  • Procure MRO materials including spare parts, tools, safety supplies, consumables, and maintenance services to support planned work.
  • Develop procurement strategies that reduce cost, improve reliability, and support maintenance readiness.
  • Source, evaluate, and qualify suppliers; negotiate pricing
  • Conduct cost analysis and vendor comparisons to identify savings opportunities.
  • Maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure highquality materials and ontime delivery.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, and service levels.
  • Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and regulatory requirements.

Purchasing Operations

  • Issue purchase orders and manage order fulfillment, delivery schedules, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing and inventory records within ERP system (e.g., D365).
  • Communicate proactively with vendors and internal teams regarding order status and material availability.

Inventory & MRO Materials Management

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to support maintenance schedules while minimizing excess stock and obsolescence.
  • Manage storeroom inventory of parts, tools, and materials to meet maintenance and reliability goals.
  • Walk the production floor as needed to verify inventory accuracy and identify material needs.
  • Support storeroom best practices, cycle counting, and inventory optimization initiatives.
  • Organize and maintain the maintenance shop using 5S principles.

Continuous Improvement

  • Apply lean principles to improve maintenance planning, scheduling, purchasing, and MRO processes.
  • Identify opportunities for improved materials, reduced lead times, and enhanced equipment reliability.
  • Support crossfunctional initiatives focused on efficiency, cost control, and operational excellence.
  • Assist with maintenance shop tasks and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 2–3+ years of experience in maintenance planning/scheduling, purchasing or supply chain experience, preferably in MRO, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance workflows, planning principles, and MRO procurement.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, tooling, PPE, and facilityrelated MRO categories.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel required)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, prints, and bills of materials.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Detailoriented with strong followthrough and accountability.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Regularly exercises discretion and the ability to prioritize workload.

Compensation

Salary Range: $25-$35 an hour
