Help Homeowners. Grow Your Financial Services Career.

Abel Personnel is hiring a Mortgage Collections Representative (Home Retention Representative I) for a respected housing finance organization in Harrisburg, PA.

If you have experience in collections, mortgage servicing, banking, or high-volume call center customer service, this opportunity allows you to apply your skills while helping homeowners address past-due mortgage payments.

Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Spanish proficiency and mortgage experience are preferred, but neither is required.

About the Position

You’ll work with homeowners whose FHA and non-FHA mortgage accounts are 15–60 days past due, helping them understand their account status and encouraging timely resolution.

This role combines early-stage mortgage collections, customer service, account research, and accurate documentation. Approximately 95% of the workday involves telephone communication, with a minimum of 160 inbound and outbound calls daily.

Successful candidates communicate with empathy, remain composed during challenging conversations, and work effectively toward established service and productivity goals.

What You’ll Do

  • Make outbound calls and answer inbound calls through designated borrower telephone queues.
  • Contact homeowners regarding mortgage accounts that are 15–60 days delinquent.
  • Explain account information clearly and encourage borrowers to address past-due payments.
  • Handle sensitive financial conversations with patience, professionalism, and respect.
  • Document borrower interactions, collection activity, and follow-up information in the mortgage servicing system.
  • Update borrower contact information and maintain accurate account records.
  • Send letters and emails encouraging borrowers to contact the servicing department.
  • Monitor the collections voicemail box and return calls promptly.
  • Review and work accounts involving returned payments or non-sufficient funds (NSF).
  • Research borrower telephone numbers and addresses using approved online resources.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet department quality, accuracy, and productivity standards.

What You Bring

  • Strong telephone communication, active listening, and customer service skills.
  • Comfort managing a high volume of calls and spending most of the workday on the telephone.
  • Ability to remain professional when discussing sensitive financial concerns.
  • Strong computer proficiency, accurate data entry, and confidence navigating multiple systems.
  • Attention to detail when documenting conversations and updating customer accounts.
  • Organization, follow-through, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Dependability and the ability to work independently while contributing to team goals.
  • Availability for a full-time Monday–Friday schedule, including one weekly evening shift.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
  • One to three years of relevant experience in collections, mortgage servicing, banking, financial services, customer service, or call center operations.
  • Basic knowledge of mortgage loans, FHA loans, loan servicing, or delinquent account management.
  • Experience documenting customer interactions in a CRM, servicing, or account management system.

Transferable experience is welcome. Your background may include credit card servicing, consumer lending, payment processing, insurance billing, accounts receivable, or customer account resolution.

Pay & Schedule

  • Hourly pay: $22.05
  • Workweek: Full-time, Monday–Friday
  • Evening requirement: One shift per week from 10:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m., scheduled Monday through Thursday
  • Location: Harrisburg, PA
  • Assignment: Approximately six months, with potential for permanent employment based on performance and organizational needs
