COMMERCIAL PLUMBER

Primary Role

The Plumber is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining pipes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution and wastewater disposal in commercial and industrial buildings.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:  

• Perform regular quality control inspections to ensure work is done correctly.
• Track/record as built changes daily on a dedicated set of drawings.
• Work in cooperation with other trades to ensure that all specifications are met.
• Ensure efficient completion of all job assignments.
• Review blueprints, building codes or specifications to determine work details, the layout of the plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste drainage systems.
• Select the type and size of pipe required.
• Install supports and hangers for pipes, fixtures, and equipment.
• Assemble and install valves and fittings.
• Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, or fixtures in structures.
• Install, repair, and maintain water treatment equipment, piping, controls, underground storm sanitary, water piping systems, water treatments, sinks, tubs, toilets, water heaters, plumbing fixtures, and appliances.
• Maintain or repair plumbing by replacing defective parts, replacing, or mending broken pipes or opening clogged drains.
• Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes.
• Cut, thread or bend pipes.
• Detect and locate leaks.
• Ensure all requirements as specified by the manufacturer of the systems and fixtures are met.
• Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet the requirements of the appropriate codes and environmental protection requirements are met.

Knowledge

The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

• Water distribution and water disposal in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
• Relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures installation and maintenance
• Tools utilized to perform required duties and how to use said tools.

Ability To

• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation (i.e., daily reports, sign-in sign-out sheets, Asbuilts etc.) pertaining to the day-to-day operations of the project assigned.
• Operate specialized machinery, equipment and tools needed to complete trade specific work.
• Work independently with little direction.
• Meet schedules and timelines as specified by superiors and/ or customers.

Physical Requirements

• Work is performed while standing, sitting and/ or walking.
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
• Requires the use of hands for grasping, squeezing, signaling, and carrying.
• Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
• Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75 pounds.
• Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to the weather, exposure to dust and other construction site types of conditions.

Safety Requirements

• Use safe work practices and promote safe practices. 
• Utilize proper PPE equipment and ensure all persons on jobsite are also utilizing same at all times. 
• Comply with all safety requirements set forth by Comfort Systems and OSHA 

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

• Preferred - OSHA 10 Certificate
• Preferred An active Virginia DPOR issued Journeyman or Masters License for your specialized trade
• Preferred First Aid and CPR Training (Current)
• Preferred Valid Drivers License and clean driving record.

Education & Experience

• Preferred - 5 years trade experience.
• Preferred Apprenticeship Program or other Trade Specific Training

 Employment Requirements

• Ability to pass drug screening(s)
• Ability to pass background check, obtain security clearance and work on jobsites where minor children are present.  
• Ability to prove U.S. employment eligibility and provide required documentation for same. Willing to travel as required.
• Able to work extended hours, when necessary, nights and weekends.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must have own tools (tools of the trade).
• Must have a neat and professional appearance.
