Job Description 

Job Title: Public Works Water Technician 
Department: Public Works 
Location: Royal City, Washington 
Reports To: Public Works Director or Supervisor 
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 
Salary Range: $52,000 - $65,000 per year 
Hours: Full-Time (40 hours/week), with occasional evenings/weekends for emergencies or scheduled maintenance 
Position Summary: 
The Public Works Water Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the towns water distribution system and related infrastructure. This position supports the delivery of safe, clean, and reliable drinking water to residents and businesses and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal water quality standards.
The technician may also assist with public works tasks, including streets, sewer, and stormwater systems. Other duties as assigned by Public Works Director. (Small crew, every public works employee is involved in all types of work)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
Operate, inspect, and maintain water distribution systems, including pumps, valves,
hydrants, meters, reservoirs, and mains.
Perform daily water sampling and testing to ensure compliance with Washington State
Department of Health (DOH) regulations.
Read, install, repair, and test water meters and backflow prevention devices.
Monitor and respond to system alarms, leaks, or pressure issues; perform emergency
repairs as needed.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, and water quality testing.
Assist in water line installations and service connections.
Conduct leak detection and respond to customer complaints related to water service.
Operate a variety of equipment and tools including trucks, excavation equipment, and
hand tools.
Assist in snow removal, road maintenance, sewer/stormwater system tasks, and other
public works duties as assigned.
Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies.

Qualifications: 
Required: 
High school diploma or GED 
Valid Washington State Drivers License (Class B CDL preferred or ability to obtain 
within 6 months) 
Washington State Water Distribution Manager I (WDM I) certification, or ability to 
obtain within 12 months of hire 
Basic knowledge of water distribution systems, plumbing, and equipment maintenance 
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work outdoors in varying weather conditions 
Strong communication, recordkeeping, and problem-solving skills 
Preferred: 
Cross-connection control certification 
Flagging and First Aid/CPR certifications 
Experience with GIS or asset management software 
Previous municipal or utility work experience 

Working Conditions: 
Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. 
Exposure to loud noise, hazardous chemicals, confined spaces, and moving equipment. 
May require working evenings, weekends, or holidays during emergencies or seasonal events.
