Utility Technician

Job Description

Western Michigan University seeks to fill a Utility Technician position in its Power Plant. This hands-on position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing power plant equipment while participating in the Power Plant's apprenticeship program. Responsibilities include interpreting electrical and mechanical schematics, utilizing testing and diagnostic equipment, and safely operating industrial vehicles, lifts, hand tools, and maintenance equipment to support reliable plant operations.

Successful candidates must be able to read and interpret technical schematics, use testing and measurement instruments, and work effectively in a physically demanding environment that may include temperature extremes and elevated noise levels. The position also requires adherence to strict safety standards while working around high-voltage equipment, superheated steam, and industrial chemicals.
