Position Overview
GoodTemps, the staffing social enterprise of Goodwill NYNJ, delivers temporary staffing solutions to government agencies, nonprofits, and private employers—while creating employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, veterans, and others facing barriers to work. GoodTemps is part of Goodwill NYNJ’s Business Services division, which also includes our Janitorial Services and Good Guards, our soon-to-launch security guard social enterprise currently in development.
The Director of Business Development is a quota-carrying individual contributor responsible for driving revenue growth across four key areas:
- Drive business development growth across Goodwill NYNJ’s full Business Services portfolio—including GoodTemps, and Janitorial Services=—by expanding and deepening relationships with NYC and NYS government agency customers.
- Launch private-sector employer partnerships across staffing, janitorial, and security service lines, creating diversified revenue streams and increasing market penetration beyond traditional public-sector customers.
- Develop and scale new revenue channels through payrolling contracts, strategic partnerships, and revenue-sharing models that strengthen the financial sustainability of all Business Services divisions.
- Lead the strategic market re-entry and business development in New Jersey for Good Temps and supporting the continued growth of Janitorial Services in Newark / Bergan County, creating a stronger and more diversified Business Services footprint across the 10 counties in NJ.
GoodTemps currently deploys over 500 temporary employees, over 70% who are people with disabilities, daily, with a strategic goal of increasing to 600 active daily placements in FY27. This role is central to driving that growth, while also supporting broader Business Services expansion.
The position works in close partnership with the Business Services/Good Temps leadership team, while reporting directly to the EVP, Business Services / Executive Director, GoodTemps, to drive coordinated growth across Goodwill NYNJ’s full Business Services portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Revenue Growth & Sales Execution
- Generate new staffing and janitorial orders across government, nonprofit, and private-sector clients
- Execute consistent outreach through calls, email, LinkedIn, and in-person engagement
- Conduct meetings and presentations to position Goodwill NYNJ as a workforce partner and a key advocate for no talent left behind for people with disabilities and veterans
- Convert opportunities into clearly defined job orders and revenue-generating agreements
Government Revenue Expansion
- Expand business within existing agency customers such as HRA, DOE, MTA, DOHMH, and other public-sector organizations
- Build relationships with agency leadership, HR teams, and hiring managers
- Navigate procurement pathways including DCAS and NYSID
- Collaborate with NYSID’s business development team to identify opportunities, strengthen contract utilization, and expand GoodTemps’ and Janitorial footprint across NYC and NYS government agencies. Connect with ACCESSNJ and find other opportunities in NJS and key counties.
- Identify repeatable staffing needs across clerical, administrative, and field-based roles
Private Sector Growth
- Build and establish GoodTemps’ private-sector business development strategy across corporate, nonprofit, and mission-aligned employers, creating a new and scalable revenue channel.
- Develop foundational relationships with organizations seeking flexible staffing, payrolling, janitorial, and future security workforce solutions.
- Position GoodTemps and Goodwill NYNJ Business Services as a trusted workforce and social impact partner capable of delivering talent, operational value, and mission-driven outcomes.
Revenue Diversification
- Develop and secure payrolling contracts with organizations that require workforce management support
- Establish revenue-sharing partnerships (powered by GoodTemps) with workforce providers, training organizations, and community partners
- Structure, optimize, and expand agreements that strengthen GoodTemps’ service model and diversify revenue streams, including proactively evaluating existing contracts for strategic updates, restructuring, and scalable enhancements that increase revenue potential while preserving strong long-term client relationships
New Jersey Market Development
- Establish GoodTemps’ temporary staffing presence for people with disabilities and veterans in New Jersey, with a focus on Newark and surrounding regions
- Identify and secure new employer partnerships across public, nonprofit, and private sectors
- Introduce GoodTemps’ staffing model to NJ-based organizations and navigate applicable procurement or vendor onboarding processes
- Collaborate with ACCSES NJ’s business development team to identify opportunities, leverage contract access, and accelerate market entry
- Align staffing opportunities with available talent pipelines, including individuals with disabilities
- Partner internally to address geographic and transportation-related workforce considerations
Opportunity Development & Order Quality
- Translate client needs into clear, actionable job orders
- Align scope, pay rates, and timelines with operational capabilities
- Ensure job orders are well-defined and fillable
- Build and improve systems and be the owner of systems and communication channels.
Internal Coordination
- Partner with Talent & Placement teams to ensure successful fulfillment by aligning business development efforts with operational capacity, workforce readiness, customer expectations, remove barriers / help with accommodations, and high-quality service delivery that supports long-term client retention and scalable growth.
- Provide detailed context on client expectations and timelines
- Maintain communication throughout the placement lifecycle
- Partner with Mission and People & Culture to share job opportunities, training programs, promote and sell Goodwill NYNJ together and support the organizations impact.
Pipeline Development & Market Engagement
- Maintain a robust revenue pipeline through consistent outbound outreach, strategic partnerships, and active management of qualified opportunities across all business lines.
- Identify emerging workforce needs across NYC and Northern New Jersey
- Represent GoodTemps and Business Services at workforce and industry events
Sales Performance & Reporting
- Maintain accurate CRM records of outreach, meetings, and opportunities
- Track performance against order generation, placements, and revenue targets
- Provide critical thinking, analysis and keep leadership plugged into the trends and key metrics
Qualifications
- Significant experience in sales, business development, or staffing services
- Demonstrated success generating new business and managing client relationships
- Experience working with government agencies, procurement processes, or workforce programs preferred
- Ability to develop partnership-based and alternative revenue models
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
