Mainline Track Hoe Operator

Heavy Civil Water & Sewer Construction – Wyoming

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled, safety-focused Mainline Track Hoe Operator to join our underground utility construction team. This position is responsible for operating excavators on water, sewer, storm drain, and utility installation projects while maintaining high production standards, quality workmanship, and a strong commitment to safety.

The ideal candidate is an experienced operator who can work efficiently around existing utilities, maintain proper trench grades, support pipe crews, and contribute to successful project completion in Wyoming's challenging weather and soil conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Operate excavators (track hoes) ranging from mid-size to large excavators for underground utility construction.

· Excavate trenches for water mains, sanitary sewer mains, storm drainage systems, and related utility infrastructure.

· Perform trenching, backfilling, grading, loading trucks, and material handling operations.

· Work closely with pipe layers, laborers, foremen, and superintendents to maintain production goals.

· Maintain proper trench depth, line, and grade according to project plans and specifications.

· Safely expose existing utilities through careful excavation techniques.

· Install and remove trench safety systems, including trench boxes and shoring as directed.

· Perform daily equipment inspections and complete required equipment reports.

· Monitor equipment condition and report maintenance or repair needs promptly.

· Follow all utility locating requirements and excavation safety procedures.

· Assist with site cleanup and support other crew activities when necessary.

· Work overtime, weekends, and travel as required by project schedules.

Safety Responsibilities

· Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.

· Participate in daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), tailgate meetings, and safety training.

· Maintain constant awareness of underground and overhead hazards.

· Ensure trenches are excavated and protected in accordance with OSHA trenching and excavation standards.

· Stop work and notify supervision when unsafe conditions are identified.

· Wear and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).

· Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork on every project.

Qualifications

Required

· Minimum 3 years of excavator experience in underground utility, heavy civil, or pipeline construction.

· Experience installing water, sewer, and storm drain systems.

· Ability to read grade stakes, cut sheets, and construction plans.

· Knowledge of trench safety regulations and excavation best practices.

· Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

· Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor when needed.

Preferred

· Class A CDL.

· Experience with GPS machine control systems.

· OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

· Experience working in Wyoming, mountain, or rural utility construction environments.

· Ability to work safely around crews, utilities, structures, and traffic.

· Commitment to quality workmanship and professional conduct.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to sit, climb, bend, kneel, and walk on uneven terrain throughout the workday.

· Ability to enter and exit equipment frequently.

· Ability to work in extreme heat, cold, wind, and other Wyoming weather conditions.

· Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
