Mechanical Engineer, Entry

Job Description

Job Purpose: 

Provide engineering design, maintenance support, and training to the manufacturing areas, and assess new and existing equipment to optimize efficiency, safety, quality, and cost effectiveness in the production of educational and commercial furniture. Develop project designs for research and development in support or corporate strategic planning requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Prioritize and complete design engineering projects to maximize production and cost effectiveness.
  • Design new equipment and machinery as conceived to support the in-house needs of manufacturing and engineering.
  • Assist in building, installing, and testing new equipment to ensure production capabilities.
  • Determine maintenance schedules, procedures, and safety standards on current and new equipment to ensure equipment is operating, maintained, and serviced properly.
  • Train technicians and operators in manufacturing procedures to ensure consistent adherence of inter-plant process specifications/standards.
  • Apply analytical, evaluative, and constructive expertise to design engineering projects by the critical deadlines assigned.
  • Communicate on all shifts with operators, technicians, and management to ensure success on projects and problems while managing catastrophic failure conditions and subsequent repairs.
  • Follow company’s standards for the department regarding blueprint layouts, dimensioning, tolerances, symbols, etc., keeping continuity of all prints. 
  • Must be flexible to perform other duties as assigned and requested.

 

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

 Required Qualifications:

 BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D drafting/modeling tools like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, or Creo.
  • The ability to articulate complex technical ideas, write reports, and collaborate in cross-functional teams. 
  • Strong analytical problem-solving capabilities and the ability to clearly present information to senior engineers and management. 

Physical Requirements:

Will require sitting in front of a computer 50% of the time or more. Frequent motion of hand and fingers due to typing. Occasional walking. Occasionally bending at the waist when filing or reaching. Must be able to have basic computer skills. Will occasionally be exposed to chemicals, dust, heat, cold, gas, and/or fumes. Must wear applicable and proper protective equipment including, but not limited to, protective eye wear when walking out in the plant. Must be able to adjust to normal plant environmental conditions (above moderate heat and cold) and to adapt quickly to physical applications requiring varying motor skills.
