Eugene Springfield Fire is recruiting full-time Emergency Medical Technician (EMT Single-Role) and full-time limited duration and part-time temporary, licensed Basic Life Support (BLS)Technicians.
The Single Role EMT functions in support of the lead medic on an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance and is responsible for performing skilled basic life support medical care, including the pre-hospital care, assessment, preparation and transportation of sick and/or injured patients. The Single Role EMT performs all work consistent with the EMT-B/A certification level as specified by established State of Oregon Scope of Practice. The Basic Life Support Technician (BLS Tech) is responsible for the pre-hospital care, packaging and transportation of sick and/or injured patients, primarily on code 1 scene calls within the Eugene/Springfield area. Work is performed within the scope of an Emergency Medical Technician- Basic (EMT). This is a great opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and familiarity of the Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) Department. You will also gain experience that will be beneficial should you have a desire to gain regular employment in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and/or Fire services, including ESF.
EMT Single Role - Salary Range: $21.11 - $28.25 hourly. Earning Potential: $57,083.52 - $76,390.08 annually. Earning potential is based on a regularly scheduled 48-hour average workweek where all hours worked over 40 in a workweek are paid at 1.5 X the regular hourly rate. This position is paid on an hourly basis; the hourly pay range is $21.11-28.25 The annual earning potential listed is based on working 48 hours, on average, per workweek over the span of 52 weeks. The position is eligible for overtime opportunities above the regularly scheduled earning potential reported.
Basic Life Support Technician Salary Range*: $19.40-$21.80 Hourly
*All Basic Life Support Technicians start at $19.40
The City of Eugene and Springfield determine starting pay within the range based on relevant education and experience as provided by the applicant in their application materials. This process is consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act (OEPA). For Basic Life Support Technicians, starting pay is step 1 of the salary range and for the EMT Single Role positions, the starting pay is step 3 of the salary range or higher based on work experience.

Possession of and ability to obtain and maintain a State of Oregon EMT Licensure. Must have an Oregon license by September 11, 2026. National Registry EMT or a provisional license would not meet this requirement.
Valid Oregon driver's license [or, the ability to obtain by date of hire]; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City's standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355).
