Duties Clean out the interior of rail and/or tank cars with the use of water or an abrasive or fine material (sand). Work safely around heavy equipment and on top of, under and inside railcars, as well as around railroad tracks. Properly maintain and clean all equipment including sprayers, nozzles, hoses, catch basins, etc. Maintain a natural flow of work to ensure efficiency. Good communication with fellow co-workers and management. Follow all Federal Railroad Association and / Association of American Railroad safety regulations and procedures. Dispose of materials according to EPA requirements. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Requirements Must meet drug and alcohol compliance rules Must pass a fitness test and respiratory wellness test Must pass training of MSHA 8 hr. Qualification, Confined Space, and Hazmat Handling Ability and willingness to work outside in adverse weather conditions. Knowledge of equipment and tools required to perform safe entry for cleaning (Familiarity with Sandblasting / Power Washing equipment) Ability to follow oral or written instructions. Ability to wear and care for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to steel toed boots, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, respirators, and a variety of protective suits. Ability to climb ladders, tolerate confined spaces and heights, bend, stoop, stretch, lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds multiple times. Working Conditions Constant exposure to noise and occasional exposure to extreme temperatures. Exposure to gas fumes, blow torch flames, and welding arc in the occasional operation of welding tools. Frequent lifting of railroad parts and other materials, equipment, and tools. The incumbent must be able to do any of the following for long periods of time: Sitting, Standing, Climbing, Walking, Lifting, Pulling, Crouching, and Crawling.
