About the role
Wood is hiring Plant Technicians to join the hands-on operations team at our Upton Demonstration Plant — a specialized chemical processing facility near Gillette, Wyoming. This is a physical, skilled-labor role at the core of 24/7 plant operations. You'll load raw materials, handle process sampling, support piping construction, and operate heavy equipment — all while working alongside experienced leads who invest in your technical development. If you have strong mechanical instincts, thrive in an industrial environment, and take pride in doing precise, physical work, this role offers stability, real skills, and competitive total compensation.
Wood offers multiple health, dental and vision insurance plans, PTO, paid life insurance and disability plans as well as a 100% vested 401k plan.
What you'll do
- Material handling & loading: Physically load raw materials and move chemical sacks (60+ lbs) as the primary labor engine of the plant.
- Process sampling: Pull samples and record data with high precision — your accuracy directly impacts lab analysis and plant performance.
- Piping & infrastructure: Assist in construction and repair of plant piping using CPVC and poly pipe fusion techniques.
- Heavy equipment operation: Safely operate telehandlers, man-lifts, and skid steers on site.
- Chemical & NORM safety: Work with acids and naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) following ALARA principles and strict safety protocols.
- Plant controls support: Learn and assist with control operations under direction of the Operating Lead.
- Certifications & training: Complete radiation safety awareness, hazardous material handling, and equipment-specific certifications — all provided.
What you'll need
- Physical capability: Ability to lift 60+ lbs regularly and work at heights with proper PPE
- Mechanical aptitude: Hands-on experience with hand and power tools; piping experience (CPVC or poly pipe fusion) a strong plus
- Attention to detail: Comfort with repetitive, precision tasks and maintaining accurate records
- Shift flexibility: Available for swing schedule in a 24/7 industrial environment
- Critical thinking: Strong practical problem-solving and ability to follow direction and troubleshoot in real time
- Authorization to work: Legally authorized to work in the US without employer sponsorship
