Maintenance Assistant

Job Description

Maintenance assistance: performs routine, hands-on tasks to keep facilities, grounds, and equipment clean, safe, and functional. Key duties include basic repairs (plumbing, electrical, carpentry), cleaning, landscaping, and assisting with larger maintenance projects. They work under supervision to support building operations, often requiring physical stamina. 

Key Responsibilities
•    General Maintenance & Repair: Fixing minor issues like leaky faucets, running toilets, broken locks, light switches, and repairing drywall.
•    Preventative Maintenance: Conducting routine inspections of doors, windows, and fixtures to prevent major issues.
•    Groundskeeping: Mowing, weeding, trimming, cleaning parking lots, and clearing snow/ice.
•    Janitorial & Cleaning: Cleaning, mopping, waxing floors, cleaning restrooms, and removing waste.
•    Support Functions: Assisting specialized maintenance staff with larger repairs, painting, and moving furniture.
•    Safety & Organization: Maintaining tool/equipment inventory, organizing supply rooms, and following safety protocols (OSHA). 

Qualifications and Requirements
•    Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is typically required.
•    Experience: Prior experience in maintenance, janitorial services, or skilled trades (HVAC, plumbing, electric) is preferred but often not required, as training is provided.
•    Physical Stamina: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, as well as standing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods.
•    Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
•    Soft Skills: Strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to solve problems.
