Assistant Professor in Leadership Studies

LSU in Shreveport invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Leadership Studies, beginning August 2027. We seek a colleague committed to excellence in teaching, scholarly engagement, and student success in a diverse and inclusive environment. This tenure-track, 9-month position will join our faculty in the 100% online Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies program.

This position is based in Shreveport, Louisiana, and is not a remote position.

Responsibilities:

• Teach graduate and undergraduate (leadership minor) courses in leadership, as needed.
• Supervise and mentor students in their academic development.
• Engage in research and scholarly activities in leadership or a related field.
• Serve on doctoral committees.
• Participate in service activities at the university, college, and department levels, as well as in the community and the profession.
• Collaborate with core faculty on program development.
• Represent the program at recruitment events, orientations, and other university functions, and respond to inquiries from prospective students and other stakeholders (university administration, accrediting bodies, community constituents).

Required Qualifications:

• A doctorate in leadership, political science, non-profit administration, sociology, education, or industrial organization (I/O psychology, organizational behavior, or other leadership-related fields).
• Demonstrated commitment to accessible teaching practices, including online instruction.
• In-depth knowledge of quantitative or qualitative research methods.
• Evidence of scholarship and a continued research agenda in the field of leadership.
• Demonstrated commitment to developing partnerships with community agencies and internal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Successful teaching and publication record.
• Experience with both online and traditional teaching.
• Dissertation committee experience.
• Leadership experience and/or research interest in one of the following settings: emergency management, health leadership, or other human service agencies.

About the Department of Leadership Studies and LSU Shreveport

The online Doctorate of Education in Leadership Studies, offered through LSU Shreveport, is designed for working professionals who want to lead transformational change. The program blends scholarly research with practical leadership skills, helping students apply theory to real-world challenges. Coursework focuses on leadership theory, data-driven decision-making, group dynamics, motivation, mentoring and coaching, organizational influence, and research methods. Students will develop the skills to collaborate with stakeholders, solve problems of practice, and create impactful learning and development strategies. These skills are built through engaging courses, hands-on research, and interactive networking opportunities. The program offers three concentrations:

• Leadership Studies focuses on providing practical approaches for leading people and organizations in an ever-changing world.
• Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management teaches students to reduce risks, improve response communication, and enhance emergency skills across sectors.
• Health Communication & Leadership is designed to improve your ability to lead organizations in the health sector. 

Undergraduate courses in the Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) minor include Introduction to Leadership Development, Communication for Leaders, Leadership Theory and Practice, Ethics, Values and Leadership.
