Assistant Professor of Plant Biology

Job Description

LSU Shreveport invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Plant Biology in the Department of Biological Sciences, to begin August 2027. We seek a colleague committed to excellence in teaching, scholarly engagement, and student success in a diverse and inclusive environment. This position is a full time, tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses in the undergraduate and graduate curriculum and develop elective courses that complement departmental strengths.
  • Develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Supervise and mentor students in their academic and professional development.
  • Contribute to departmental, college, and university service, including advising and mentoring.
  • Engage in community outreach.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • D. in Biological Sciences or a closely related field by time of appointment. ABD considered with completion by start date.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postdoctoral experience.
  • Evidence of High-Impact Teaching Practices.
  • Demonstrated record of research productivity.

Additional resources include The Museum of Life Sciences and the Science Research Annex, which offers modern laboratory facilities including plant and animal care space. Faculty also benefit from connections to a thriving local network of research and outreach institutions including the LSU AgCenter, the LSU Health Sciences CenterShreveport (LSUHSC-S), the Red River Watershed Management Institute, the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON), and the Ouachita Mountains Biological Station (OMBS).
