Sewing Machine Technician / Sewing Machine Repair Technician

Position Summary

As a Sewing Machine Technician, you will diagnose, maintain, repair, and test both consumer and industrial sewing machines, embroidery machines, sergers, and related equipment. You will help customers keep their equipment operating at peak performance while delivering exceptional service and technical expertise.

This position is ideal for individuals with experience in:

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Diagnostics & Repair

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, software, and performance issues on sewing machines and related equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, calibration, and adjustments.
• Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and identify effective repair solutions.
• Repair or replace components and verify repairs through testing.
• Test-sew machines upon completion to ensure proper operation and customer satisfaction.
• Modify or fabricate solutions when needed to complete repairs.

Customer Service & Technical Support

• Receive customer machines for evaluation and service.
• Create detailed repair tickets and maintain accurate service documentation.
• Communicate repair findings, recommendations, and cost estimates clearly to customers.
• Provide education on proper operation, maintenance, and care of sewing equipment.
• Deliver a professional and positive customer experience throughout the repair process.

Service Department Operations

• Maintain parts inventory and organize repair supplies.
• Track repairs, service records, and work orders accurately and promptly through the process.
• Support regular maintenance of other store equipment and facilities.
• Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Field Service Opportunities

• Occasionally perform service calls at customer locations when required.
• Represent Roberts Sewing Center professionally during off-site visits and events.
  

Qualifications:

Required

• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair projects.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in this customer facing role.
• Attention to detail and ability to document repairs accurately.
• Commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

Preferred

• Sewing machine repair experience.
• Experience working on industrial, commercial, or consumer machinery.
• Knowledge of electrical systems, motors, computerized equipment, or electronics.
• Experience in appliance repair, small engine repair, machinery maintenance, or technical service roles.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the workday.
• Lift and transport sewing machines and related equipment.
• Manual dexterity required for detailed mechanical and electrical repairs.
• Ability to safely handle equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and more with assistance.

Schedule Requirements

• Available to work a minimum of three days per week.
• Saturday availability required.
• Occasional participation in regional quilt shows and special events within approximately one hour of the store location to assist with setup and tear down.
