Anticipated starting salary: $30.58 to $33.60 hourly/$63,605 to $69,885 annually, based on experience and qualifications

Job Description

The payroll accountant/human resources assistant is key to helping MCIT carry out its mission of providing cost-effective coverage with comprehensive and quality risk management services to its members by providing payroll functions and accounting backup within the finance unit, as well as supporting human resources functions for the organization.

MCIT is a joint powers government entity made up of Minnesota counties and associated public entities that pool resources to provide property, liability, auto and workers compensation coverage to members. MCIT offers a collaborative work environment and excellent benefits, including a pension plan.

Typical Duties  

The following are common duties of the payroll accountant/human resources assistant:

  • Processing all payroll activity, including withholdings of taxes and benefits
  • Preparing and reconciling tax filings
  • Employee benefit enrollment and maintenance
  • Supporting the recruitment, onboarding and exit processes
  • Back-up to finance manager and staff accountants as needed
  • Other core payroll and human resources functions as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • A two-year degree in accounting, human resources, business administration or other related field from an accredited college or university; or comparable experience
  • At least two years of human resources and/or accounting experience
  • Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word (or similar) skills
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of accounting software
  • Knowledge of payroll software
  • Knowledge of human resources software

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional human resources experience with federal, state or local government
  • Familiarity with local government, service organizations or associations
