Title: Donation Specialist (Lead Truck Driver)
Reports to: ReStore Manager & Assistant Manager
Full time: 40 hours/week, paid hourly
Job Summary: The Donation Specialist is a full-time representative of Firelands Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore in the community. This position serves as the face of the organization to donors, customers, businesses, churches, and community partners by providing excellent service, building positive relationships, and helping secure new donations that support the mission and ministry of Firelands Habitat for Humanity. The Donation Specialist will drive the ReStore truck, coordinate donation pickups and deliveries, assist with donor communication and donation screening, care for the truck and its routine maintenance needs, and support ReStore operations as needed.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
Donation Pickups and Deliveries: Drive the ReStore truck to pick up donated items and deliver purchases in a safe, professional, and timely manner. Assist with loading and unloading the truck, inspect and screen donations according to ReStore guidelines, complete donor paperwork, and ensure donors receive a courteous and mission-focused experience. Coordinate daily routes and communicate clearly with donors, customers, volunteers, and ReStore staff.
Community and Donor Development: Serve as a positive representative of Firelands Habitat for Humanity throughout the community. Help identify, cultivate, and secure new donation sources from individuals, businesses, contractors, churches, civic groups, and community partners. Promote the ReStore donation program, explain acceptable donation items, and help strengthen relationships that increase quality donations and support the organization’s mission.
Truck Care and Maintenance: Take responsibility for the cleanliness, safety, and routine care of the ReStore truck. Complete regular vehicle checks, report maintenance needs promptly, coordinate approved service appointments, maintain required vehicle records, and ensure the truck is operated in compliance with applicable laws, safety expectations, and Firelands Habitat policies.
ReStore Operations Support: As needed, assist with sorting, cleaning, pricing, staging, and moving donated items to the sales floor or warehouse. Help maintain an organized, safe, and welcoming ReStore environment. Assist customers with merchandise questions and loading purchases when needed.
Additional Requirements
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and safely move furniture, appliances, building materials, and other donated items
- Must be able to pass a BCI background check, sex offender registry and drug screen
- Must be willing to perform duties with the understanding that there may be exposures to extremes in weather (snow, heat, cold, rain)
- Must possess strong customer service, phone, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Must be able to work Saturdays
- Must be able to work independently, follow instructions, manage routes efficiently, and represent the organization professionally in the community
- Must comply with and enforce any state and local law as well as affiliate policies.
- Must be willing to assist the ReStore Manager & Assistant Manager in other areas as needed, including donor outreach, warehouse support, and sales floor support
- Must be comfortable speaking with donors, businesses, and community partners about the mission and donation needs of Firelands Habitat for Humanity
- Must understand and appreciate the mission of Habitat for Humanity
