ASSISTANT SURVEYOR-ASSOCIATE SURVEYOR

Job Description

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Assistant/Associate Surveyor in the Community Development and Services Department. Under general direction, assists the County Surveyor in performing field surveying, drafting and mapping services; coordinates activities between surveying and engineering divisions of the Public Works Department; and performs related duties as assigned.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with staff, contractors, agencies, and the public.
  • Dependable, detail-oriented professional who can manage priorities and work effectively under general direction.

Qualifications

 

The minimum and preferred requirements are listed below. While the following requirements outline the minimum qualifications, Human Resources reserves the right to select applicants for further consideration who demonstrate the best qualifications match for the job. Education and Experience:

  • Assistant Surveyor:

    • MINIMUM:  30 semester or 45 quarter units from an accredited college with coursework in land surveying or mathematics through trigonometry or basic science and two (2) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR four (4) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR Bachelors degree from accredited college with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering, or related field. 

    • PREFERRED: In addition to the minimum, additional upper division coursework, from an accredited college with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering or related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in property surveying and/or land development. 

  • Associate Surveyor:

    • MINIMUM:  60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering or related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR six (6) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience; OR Bachelors degree from an accredited college with major coursework in land surveying or civil engineering or related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible land surveying or land development experience. 

    • PREFERRED: In addition to the minimum, Bachelors degree from an accredited college with major coursework in land surveying, civil engineering or related field and three (3) years progressively responsible land surveying experience in a public agency. 

Licenses and Certification:
  • The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment.
  • Assistant Surveyor:   Possess or the ability to obtain a Land Surveyor in Training certificate as referenced in California Business and Professions Code Section 8741(a) and 8747(a) within one year of hire. 
  • Associate Surveyor: Possess a Professional Land Surveyor License (PLS) as referenced in California Business and Professions Code Section 8741(d) and 8747(b). 

Special Requirements:
  • Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which includes Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire.
  • DMV printout prior to hire.
  • Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.

Salary/Compensation: $6,678 - $8,116 per month
