Deputy Sheriff

Job Type: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Martinsburg, WV
Department: Sheriff's Office

Salary

  • $57,466 with no prior experience
  • $59,187 upon graduation from the West Virginia State Police Academy
  • Up to $67,668 for pre-certified officers (based on years of service)

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be at least 18 years of age (per West Virginia Code)
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be in excellent physical health, maintaining appropriate weight in proportion to height
  • Successfully pass all Civil Service Commission examinations
  • Successfully complete a physical agility test administered by the Civil Service Commission
  • Submit additional evaluations throughout the hiring process, including psychological and polygraph examinations
  • Meet all fitness standards required for police academy admission
  • Successfully pass a medical examination prior to employment
  • Attend and complete all required training programs
  • Be willing to accept a variety of assignments, including but not limited to K-9 Deputy, Court Security Officer, School Resource Officer, and other duties assigned by the Sheriff of Berkeley County

Additional Benefits

Deputies may be eligible for a take-home vehicle if they reside within a 25-mile radius of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, subject to the discretion and approval of the Sheriff.
