Laurens Central School
Laurens Central School is seeking a certified School Counselor to begin a probationary
appointment beginning 8/24/2026. The successful candidate will have the opportunity
to work with the other counselor to strengthen the counseling program and work with students in grades 7-12. Salary will be commensurate with experience. NYS certification and NYSED fingerprint clearance required.

A School Counselor supports students' academic, social, emotional, and career development by providing guidance, counseling, and intervention services in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. Responsibilities include meeting individually and in groups with students to address personal concerns, academic planning, conflict resolution, and college or career readiness. The School Counselor collaborates with teachers, administrators, parents, and community agencies to develop strategies that promote student success and well-being. They assist with crisis intervention, identify students in need of additional support, and make appropriate referrals to outside resources when necessary. Additional duties include maintaining confidential student records, coordinating standardized testing, facilitating classroom guidance lessons, and supporting school-wide programs that encourage positive behavior and mental wellness. The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, demonstrates compassion and professionalism, and holds the appropriate state certification in school counseling. A commitment to student advocacy, equity, and academic achievement is essential.
