Legal Services Specialist

Job Description

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Legal Services Specialist in the Health and Human Services Department. Under general supervision, the incumbent performs varied and specialized confidential legal support duties requiring thorough knowledge of the assigned department, division, or program, including its procedures and operations. Provides administrative support to legal staff; assists with calendaring and scheduling; composes and prepares correspondence using judgment in content and style; performs skilled word processing, data entry, recordkeeping, statistical and technical report preparation, and filing; prepares legal documents; assists with case coordination and timely filing of documents; and performs related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate:

  • Demonstrated experience providing confidential legal and administrative support in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of legal office procedures, document preparation, filing requirements, and case coordination processes.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage calendars, schedule meetings, and track deadlines with accuracy.
  • Skilled in drafting, proofreading, and preparing professional correspondence using sound judgment and discretion.
  • Proficient in word processing, data entry, records management, and preparation of reports and legal documents.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy when handling sensitive and complex information.
  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet critical deadlines.
  • Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing high-quality support to legal staff.
  • Experienced in maintaining confidential records and exercising discretion when handling privileged information.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of working independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Qualifications

 

The minimum and preferred requirements are listed below. Education and Experience:
Minimum: Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of responsible office support experience involving the preparation and processing of legal documents for court action.

Preferred: Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college with major coursework in business, public administration, or a related field, and two (2) years of experience as a legal secretary in a legal office or court setting.

Licensing and Certification:

  • Ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; may be required to maintain the license throughout employment at the discretion of the Appointing Authority.
  • Typing Certificate: Minimum net of 40 wpm. Typing certificate must reflect results from a five (5) minute test with at least the required net wpm.

Special Requirements:

  • Successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation, including Live Scan fingerprinting.
  • Required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.

Salary/Compensation: $3,822 - $4,204 per month
