The Special Education Teacher (.6 FTE) position involves serving as Liaison for a caseload of students, which includes developing an IEP, conducting assessments, and communicating with vocational and academic teachers, other special education staff and related service providers, parents, students, and administrators. Liaisons are expected to be fully versed in state and federal mandates, possess a repertoire of instructional and behavior management strategies, understand how to develop and implement an IEP. Excellent written and oral communication skills and literacy are expected. Liaisons are also expected to be able to use data management and instructional technology on a daily basis. The candidate will report to the Director of Special Education
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Teaching and maintaining curriculum making appropriate modifications/accommodations based on individual needs and learning styles.
2. Teaching effective self-advocacy, executive functioning, and compensatory strategies to students to increase independence and self-reliance.
3. Effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction to students enrolled in special education classes or inclusion classes.
4. Supporting effective self-advocacy, executive functioning, and compensatory strategies to students to increase independence and self reliance.
5. Promotion of high standards and expectations for students achievement.
6. Develop IEPs with other team members, and monitor student progress.
7. Communicate student needs and appropriate strategies, accommodations, and modifications to other staff.
8. Complete all required IEPs, reports, and other documentation in compliance with standards and timelines.
9. Use methods of student engagement that are welcoming, motivating and supporting.
10. Cooperate with intra and extra department efforts to integrate instruction.
11. Participate in activities that promote the best interest of our students and our school.
12. Engage in professional development programs to keep current with modern pedagogy.
13. Cooperate with department Team Leader in fulfilling the mission of the institution.
14. Other duties assigned by administration.

1. Certified by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education in Moderate Disabilities at the secondary level.
2. Possess successful background and/or coursework to be classified as Highly Qualified in Math or English, preferred.
3. SEI endorsement preferred.
4. Demonstrate characteristics which clearly incorporate a team concept and indicate an ability to relate positively to students and colleagues.
5. Possess a clear sense of purpose as it pertains to teaching young people who attend this school.
6. Posses a professional and personal history which is exemplary and supported with reference.
Compensation:
1. Based on credentials, approvals and experience, the successful candidate will be paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School Teacher Association and the Blackstone Valley Regional School District Committee.
