Location: Delaware Engineering, D.P.C. Office at Oneonta, NY
Full-time in person, Monday – Friday
Pay: $65,000 – $72,000/yr commensurate with experience

Under the direction of a Senior Engineer or Project Manager, the Engineer will conduct conceptual planning, prepare engineering reports, conduct calculations and modeling, and complete detailed designs prior to construction.  During construction the Engineer will support the field inspection staff in review of construction projects and hand-off of the completed works to owners.  Typical projects include: water and wastewater treatment systems, pumping systems, municipal gravity and pressure sewers, and water distribution and storage systems.

Day-to-day activities include preparation of letters and reports, conducting calculations, preparing written specifications and detailed design drawings. Office and field work include frequent interface with internal technical staff and the ability to work directly with clients is encouraged.  There are substantial opportunities for growth with support towards securing professional licensure, continuing education and professional development. This is a Professional Engineer license-track position.

POSITION PROFILE

  • 0-5 years of experience in design of water and wastewater systems, such as pumping, collection, distribution and treatment systems

  • Provide technical support to senior engineers and project managers, helping to troubleshoot issues and optimize processes, which may include conducting research, analyzing data, and preparing reports

  • Excel and MS Word experience required

  • Sufficiently familiar with AutoCAD to communicate work with team members

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Working knowledge of water and wastewater design standards is a strength (e.g. 10- States, TR-16, NYSDEC Intermediate Standards and NYS Part 5)

  • Engineering degree or equivalent curriculum a strength

  • Cursory knowledge of building codes a strength

  • Assisting in the preparation and execution of project plans, schedules, and budgets

  • Supporting the project manager and team members in project tasks

  • Participating in project meetings and discussions with the client as required

  • Assisting in managing the project quality control process

  • Contributing to the design and development of engineering solutions

  • Preparing and reviewing technical drawings, plans, and specifications

  • Conducting field visits and gathering data, if necessary

  • Performing basic calculations, analyses, and model testing under the supervision of senior staff

  • Helping to resolve any issues that may arise during the project lifecycle

  • Communicating with vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met

  • Assisting with the preparation of final project documentation, including the close-out process and post-project reviews

  • Continuously learning and updating skills to stay current with industry standards and advancements

  • Most importantly, self-motivated and independent

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering related field.

  • Understanding of engineering principles and design standards

  • Preferred 3 years of experience, but entry level acceptable

  • Familiarity with relevant design standards and guides

  • Demonstrated skill in reading, interpreting, and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups

  • Knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to the disciplines’ design responsibility

  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, and codes relevant to the discipline.

  • Able to work in a team and cross-functional environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office suite

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines

  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Delaware Engineering, D.P.C. is engaged in civil engineering for municipalities in the Capital District, Mohawk and Hudson River valleys as well as the Southern Tier and North Country of New York State for the past 35 years. Our municipal work involves primarily public water, sewer and drainage systems as well as public buildings and related facilities. We also support planning and zoning boards including application review and the conduct of environmental review. In addition, we provide infrastructure engineering for industry, including planning, permitting, design, and construction management as well as facility start-up. Delaware Engineering’s design group regularly supports our team of engineers. Our staff is comprised of approximately 70 professional and technical personnel with offices in Albany (Albany County), Oneonta (Otsego County), Red Hook (Dutchess County), Goshen (Orange County), Port Chester (Westchester County) and Monticello (Sullivan County). We are deeply engaged with our communities, supporting Make-A-Wish in the construction of several tree house wishes and veterans through the American Legion Riders.
