Job Description

Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM)

Full-Time Opportunity | Collaborative OB/GYN Practice | Yale New Haven Hospital

Join Our Team at County OB/GYN

County OB/GYN is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) to join our established and collaborative team.   This is an exciting opportunity to practice full-scope midwifery in a busy, well-established OB/GYN practice that values teamwork, comprehensive patient care, and collaboration between midwives and physicians.

Our CNMs provide personalized care throughout pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum recovery, and routine and problem-focused gynecologic care.  Working closely with our physicians, you will have the opportunity to build lasting patient relationships while practicing across both the outpatient and hospital settings.

 County OB/GYN offers:

  • A collaborative team:  Work alongside five OB/GYN physicians and five experienced CNMs, with additional support from four gynecology-focused physicians.
  • A balanced practice:  Enjoy a combination of three office days per week, plus an equally rotating night call schedule of approximately 1:8.
  • Full-scope midwifery:  Provide care across the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecologic continuum.
  • Hospital-based deliveries:  Attend labor and births in collaboration with our physicians at Yale New Haven Hospital, where our practice also performs surgical procedures.
  • A varied clinical role:  Combine comprehensive prenatal care with preventive gynecology, diagnostic evaluations, and contraceptive counseling and management.

Responsibilities - Obstetric Care

  • Provide comprehensive prenatal care from the initial visit through delivery, including obtaining patient histories, ordering and reviewing appropriate laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and ultrasounds, and documenting evaluations throughout pregnancy.
  • Assess patients for potential pregnancy complications and coordinate appropriate consultation and management with physicians when indicated.
  • Provide labor and birth support in collaboration with our OB/GYN physicians.
  • Follow established clinical protocols and current ACOG guidelines to support safe, evidence-based care.

Responsibilities - Gynecologic Care

  • Perform annual well-woman examinations and evaluate acute and ongoing gynecologic concerns.
  • Perform colposcopy and biopsies when clinically indicated and within the provider's scope of practice.
  • Counsel patients on reproductive health and provide a full range of contraceptive options.

Teamwork and Patient Care

  • Collaborate closely with physicians and fellow CNMs to coordinate high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other members of the care team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two to four years of experience in a full-scope midwifery practice, including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecologic care.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient-service skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and computer-based clinical documentation.
  • A collaborative approach to patient care and a commitment to evidence-based practice.

New Graduates Welcome to Apply

We will also consider new graduates who have substantial related experience in labor and birth nursing and a strong interest in developing their midwifery practice within a collaborative OB/GYN team.

Education and Certification

  • Master's degree in Midwifery.
  • Certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB), consistent with applicable certification requirements.
