Transportation Director Help Shape How Big Sky Moves Take on a highly visible leadership role where your work will directly influence how people travel throughout one of Montanas most distinctive communities. As Transportation Director for Big Sky Transportation District, you will help guide the future of roads, bridges, sidewalks, pathways, trails and active transportation infrastructure across the Big Sky area. This is an opportunity to bring agencies, jurisdictions and community partners together around a shared vision for safer, more connected and more efficient transportation. Your recommendations will help determine priorities, advance major projects and shape long-term investments that affect residents, employees, businesses and visitors. The Transportation Director serves as the Districts lead professional for transportation planning, infrastructure coordination and interagency collaboration. What Youll Do Serve as the primary transportation liaison among the District, Gallatin and Madison counties, the Montana Department of Transportation and neighboring jurisdictions Coordinate the planning, design and delivery of road, street, bridge, sidewalk, pathway and trail projects Lead or participate in technical advisory committees and regional working groups Build productive relationships with local, state and federal partners Guide corridor studies, preliminary engineering and environmental work Support the evaluation and prioritization of projects for inclusion in the State Transportation Improvement Program Advance infrastructure for walking, biking and other non-motorized transportation Help create safe, accessible connections among residential areas, commercial centers, resorts and recreational destinations Identify and pursue federal, state and private funding opportunities Manage awarded grants, including compliance, reporting and deliverable tracking Lead updates to transportation master plans and integrated transportation plans Establish performance measures and provide data-driven recommendations to the Board of Directors Evaluate transportation governance models and potential long-term funding mechanisms Support wildlife-crossing and transportation-demand-management initiatives as they relate to regional infrastructure Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in transportation planning, civil engineering, public administration or a related field At least five years of progressively responsible experience in transportation planning, project management or infrastructure coordination Demonstrated success working with multiple government agencies and community stakeholders Strong written and verbal communication skills Familiarity with federal and state transportation funding programs Preferred Qualifications Masters degree in a related field Experience with transportation planning in a rural or resort community Knowledge of Montana transportation agencies, regulations and funding mechanisms Experience with pedestrian, bicycle, pathway or trail planning and development AICP, P.E. or another relevant professional certification This is a full-time, exempt position based in Big Sky, Montana. Some regional travel and occasional evening meetings are expected. Salary: $100,000-$125,000, depending on experience.
