Executive Director and Chief Compliance Officer

Job Description

The Greater Boston Hospitality Employees (GBHE) Local 26 Funds (Pension, 401(k), and Benefit Funds) are interested in hiring a new Executive Director to manage the plans, including supporting the Trustees in designing and financing benefits and overseeing the operations and staff. The successful candidate will have at least ten years of benefit plan delivery experience, with at least five years of benefits administration management experience. Taft Hartley experience is strongly desired, as well as a strong working knowledge of defined benefit and defined contribution plan design, delivery, and member support. This full-time position will be lead a team of two full time and two part time employees supporting the five plans.
 
GBHE Local 26 Funds
 The benefits funds managed by this position include the following:
• Defined Benefit Pension – Variable Annuity Plan
• 401(k) Plan
• Benefit Plan, which includes an Education/Training Fund, a Housing Fund, and a Legal Services Fund (Note – health benefits are not included)
 
 
What You Will Do
In this role, you will lead the benefits fund staff in supporting the GBHE Funds. You will
  • Ensure that all benefits are delivered accurately, timely and professionally to Local 26 members
  • Oversee the Funds staff in all activities to ensure compliant, best practice operations
  • Support the Trustees of the Funds, including
    • Prepare and/or coordinate all material for Trustee meetings
    • Answer questions and research issues
    • Minimize surprises
  • Act as liaison between the Trustees and Fund Professional advisors, consultants, attorneys, accountant, investment advisors and other professionals on all matters related to matters relating to all Trust Funds.
  • Ensure proper administration and resolution of benefit claims. Review with Fund Counsel and present any appeals to Trustees.
  • Provide technical support to benefits operations, including responsibility to
    • Ensure timely completion and submission of all government-compliance filings and annual reporting requirements as well as members required mailings.
    • Monitor office policies, procedures, and standards to ensure a level of professionalism and prompt, accurate service to members, beneficiaries, unions, and participating employers.
    • Oversight of systems (homegrown) operations and activity
    • Address delinquent employer contributions and work with Fund Counsel as necessary to recover delinquent contributions.
    • Support team with customer service issues and manage escalated issues
    • Oversight of all accounts payables and receivables.  Work with counsel on delinquent accounts 
What We Are Looking For
We’re seeking a seasoned Benefits Administration manager (5+ years in management) with expertise in benefits delivery and operations. The ideal candidate has Taft Hartley plan experience, a strong understanding of defined benefit plans (variable plan experience a plus) and the ability to manage a small, competent staff in delivering a range of other benefits. This is a full-time, in office role within a collaborative team environment, requiring strong communication, analytical, and project management skills.
 
Professional Qualifications
  • At least five years of experience overseeing benefits operations and fifteen supporting benefits operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated success providing retirement services and experience in benefits operations.
  • Current and relevant knowledge of legislation, market trends and compliance requirements affecting the retirement and general benefits market.
  • Understanding of Taft-Hartley programs preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with an ability to present and manage presentations covering complex topics.
  • Effective time management skills to prioritize and organize multiple complex projects
  • Strong skills as a problem solver, including taking initiatives to complete necessary research and document the process used to reach conclusions.
  • Able to work with time-sensitive material and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Able to work independently while also contributing to team environment.
Location
This position is based in Boston, Massachusetts.
 
Compensation
The overall salary range for this role is $125,000 - $175,000
 
A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
