About Sussex Conservation District
Sussex Conservation District is dedicated to conserving Delaware's natural resources through partnerships with agricultural producers, landowners, and communities. We provide technical assistance, education, and outreach to protect soil, water, and wildlife habitat across Sussex 
County.

The Opportunity
We're seeking a creative and motivated Communications and Outreach Specialist to tell our conservation story. You'll develop compelling content, manage our digital presence, and build relationships that expand our impact. This role is ideal for a communications professional who wants meaningful work that makes a difference for Delaware's environment and agricultural community.

What You'll Do
• Develop and execute communications strategies that advance conservation messaging and stakeholder engagement
• Create multimedia content, including written materials, graphics, photography, and video
• Manage website (Joomla CMS) and social media presence across multiple platforms
• Design newsletters, annual reports, fact sheets, brochures, and educational materials
• Build relationships with cooperators, agricultural producers, and community partners
• Serve as media contact and respond to stakeholder inquiries
• Support events, grant writing, and program communications

What You'll Bring
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field
• Minimum 3 years professional experience in communications, marketing, or public relations
• Portfolio demonstrating communications projects and creative work
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro)
• Experience with content management systems (Joomla preferred)
• Exceptional writing ability and strong visual design skills
• Valid driver's license

Preferred:
• Experience with conservation, environmental, or agricultural organizations
• Knowledge of Delaware agriculture and conservation practices
• Grant writing experience

Work Environment
This position is based at 23818 Shortly Road, Georgetown, DE, with standard business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM). The role involves primarily office-based work with occasional outdoor activities, local travel within Sussex County, and flexibility for evening or weekend events.
