Construction Inspector II
Construction Inspector II will monitor work performed by contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction/maintenance projects for projects located on Blue Ridge Parkway in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Watauga, Wilkes Counties, North Carolina. The project consists of the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina from Milepost 229.6 to MP 305.1, including overlooks, parking areas and ramps. Work also includes drainage assessments and improvements, signage, pavement markings, guardrail, and slope stabilization and other miscellaneous work. Previous experience should rang from moderate to considerably complex. The Construction Inspector II may be required to provide inspection and project management under the direction of a Construction Manager or designee.
Construction Inspector II requires a minimum of six (6) years experience with highway construction inspection. This includes; a) Roadway, structure and bridge construction/maintenance/repair/rehabilitation methods, materials, standards, and specifications b) DOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual, and
Inspector Manual c) State and federal environmental, safety, and Equal Employment Opportunity guidelines and regulations d) Use of contract management software including Site Manager. Hourly rate plus per diem
Proficient in skills to:
⬧ Provide technical supervision and leadership to other inspectors.
⬧ Apply mathematical formulas and field management principles to determine major field adjustments
⬧ Prepare correspondence that communicates effectively with agency, contractor personnel, and the public
⬧ Utilize functional computer applications including the Microsoft Office Suite
Responsible Duties
⬧ Monitor contractor’s operations to ensure compliance with contract terms and specifications
⬧ Verify lines, grades dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment
⬧ Independently coordinate and direct all phases of construction inspection of projects, which include extensive traffic control, sensitivity to the public or environment, or substantial project coordination with property owners, utility companies, or local/federal government representatives
⬧ Coordinate and schedule various phases of construction with the prime contractor and agency personnel
⬧ Review and monitor contractors’ plan of operation; and advises contractor of violations and recommend adjustments to operations
⬧ Performs field measurements of pay items and conduct material testing
⬧ Prepare and maintain comprehensive project records including daily diaries, materials notebooks, as-built plans, pay quantity records, progress schedules, work orders and monthly estimates
⬧ Aid in the development of work orders, investigations, and analysis of Notices of Intent
⬧ Evaluate and monitor progress schedules, and executes work order analysis
