Job Description

Full-Time Children's Librarian
The Lyndhurst Public Library is seeking a creative, service-oriented Children's Librarian to
support a love of reading and learning among children and families. This position emphasizes
dynamic programming, strong community partnerships, and leadership in youth-focused
digital services.

QUALIFICATIONS/DESCRIPTION:
MLS from an ALA accredited program preferred. MLS students or applicants with a
background in early childhood education will also be considered.
This position requires a 35-hour work week with evening and rotating Saturday
assignments. Salary commensurate with experience. Includes generous vacation,
pension, and health insurance benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging programs for children from birth through 6th grade,
including storytimes, STEM activities, crafts, book clubs, weekly events, and the
Summer Reading Program.
• Develop, manage, and maintain the children's collection, through selection, evaluation,
and regular weeding.
• Promote early literacy, creativity, and age-appropriate development, while encouraging
meaningful family engagement in an inclusive environment.
• Provide reference and reader's advisory services; assist students with research and
information-gathering skills.
• Assist patrons in locating youth materials, program information, and other library
resources.
• Create reading lists, displays, and promotional materials.
• Set up, maintain, and clean program spaces, materials, and equipment.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with local schools through visits, book talks,
class programs, and coordinated outreach to the Lyndhurst community.
• Create and maintain a vibrant, welcoming space that encourages family participation
and connection.
• Represent the library at community events and support both in-house and outreach
initiatives.
• Apply and uphold library policies and procedures in all areas of service.
• Perform circulation duties and other departmental responsibilities as needed
