JOB DESCRIPTION: Assistant Principal Tamaqua Elementary/Special Ed - 2026

Qualifications:

  • Supervisor of Special Education Certificate or Principal Certification
  • Master's Degree in the field of Education
  • Administrative experience in public education
  • Demonstrated ability to work with teachers and administrators
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Special Education law and regulations


Reports to:

           Principal Tamaqua Elementary

            Director of Special Education

Job Goal:

To Assist with all aspects of Student Attendance, Discipline and Special Education, programming at Tamaqua Elementary

Performance Responsibilities:

Discipline

Assist Tamaqua Elementary Principal

  • Daily discipline infractions
  • Lates and tardies for class
  • Student infractions in all levels

Special Education

Assist Director of Special Education at Tamaqua Elementary and West Penn Elementary

  • Supports Director of Special Education in the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and services, ensuring they meet the needs of students with disabilities. 
    • Participating as the LEA in both IEP and 504 meetings. (MS and TE)
    • Participating in IEP and Review meetings held for students in alternative placements.
    • Coordinates and oversees Gifted, Extended School Year, and Early Intervention programs.
    • Completes transition process on all new special education enrollments.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and regulations related to special education, including IDEA and Section 504 of the ADA. 
    • Routinely reviews and audits special education documents to ensure compliance.
    • Monitors compliance with special education due process requirements, staff caseloads, and continuum of services within the District.
  • Supervising and supporting special education staff, providing guidance, and conducting evaluations. 
    • Will conduct a percentage of instructional, paraprofessional, and related services staff evaluations assigned by the Director of Special Education.
  • Monitoring and reporting student and program data to the state.
    • Assist with the December 1 Child Count as well as the July 1 Exit reports.
    • Assist Director with the Cyclical Monitoring Audit
    • Assist with the development of the triannual District Special Education Plan.
  • Communicating with parents and other stakeholders, providing information, and addressing concerns. 
  • Prepare training and professional development opportunities for special education staff. 
  • Provides information to parents regarding the referral/assessment process, special education services available within the district, and their rights relative to special education.
  • Consults and problem-solves with building principals and special education staff regarding difficult and/or potentially litigious special education issues.

Terms of Employment:

260-day work year -salary and benefits determined by the Board of Education

Evaluation:

The Tamaqua Elementary Principal and Director of Special Education shall evaluate performance of this position annually.
