Position Overview:
As a Senior Estimator, you’ll take the lead in estimating large-scale construction projects, primarily focused on PEMB and steel buildings. You will drive accuracy in cost forecasting, support bid preparation, collaborate across departments, and contribute to strategic planning. This role is key to ensuring our proposals are competitive, profitable, and aligned with SPAN’s standards of excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead full-cycle construction estimating for commercial, industrial, and PEMB projects
Analyze plans, specifications, and design documents for cost and feasibility assessments
Develop accurate cost estimates including labor, materials, subcontractor quotes, and scheduling
Manage competitive bid processes, vendor selection, and cost negotiations
Conduct quantity take-offs, cost breakdowns, and value engineering proposals
Prepare and submit high-quality RFPs, RFIs, and bid packages
Maintain and update historical cost data for ongoing estimate refinement
Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and preconstruction teams
Mentor junior estimators and support their professional development
Track estimates through project award and support handoff to operations teams
Qualifications:
5–8 years of construction estimating experience, ideally with steel, PEMB, or commercial/industrial buildings
Experience with steel erection, metal building systems, and/or tilt-up construction is highly preferred
Deep understanding of construction methods, building codes, and trade coordination
Strong knowledge of material takeoffs, labor productivity, subcontractor scoping, and risk assessment
Advanced skill in estimation and construction software, including Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
Proven ability to estimate projects ranging from 20,000 SF to 1M+ SF
Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for client and internal collaboration
Preferred Education & Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required)
OSHA 30 Certification preferred
First Aid/CPR certified is a plus
