CITY OF MENTOR Natural Resource Assistant Temporary/Seasonal The City of Mentor is seeking 1-2 Natural Resource Assistants to support the Natural Resources division with migratory bird banding, invasive plant management, native tree plantings, and nuisance wildlife management. The ideal candidate will have experience in identifying and banding migratory birds, as well as knowledge of both native and invasive plant management. Use of brush cutters and handsaws will be utilized during habitat restoration projects. Other tasks include avian monitoring, vegetation surveys, data recording and entry, and application of pesticides. The assistant will also be responsible for helping prepare and conduct educational programs. Knowledge of native and non-native herbaceous and woody plant species. Some educational programming backgrounds are preferred. A degree in wildlife management, natural resources, ecology, biology, or a related field or a currently enrolled student in these areas is required. Must be able to lift and carry at least 40 lbs. Must be able tolerate inclement temperatures and weather for long periods of time. Will be required to work some nights and some weekends both indoors and out. Experience using Microsoft Office, Excel, and Google Drive. Proven ability to accurately collect and compile scientific data. Must have valid drivers license and ability to drive large trucks. Experience or desire to learn the operation of four-wheel drive equipment and trailers is preferred. Handling of herbicides is required. This position is available for immediate start dates and will remain open until the positions are filled. Rate of pay will be $15.00/hr. Position will remain open until it is filled.
