Newark Board of Education EDUCATIONAL INTERPRETER QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS • Certification: Possession of an appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, or eligibility for an Emergency Certificate as defined by the NJDOE Certification Portal. • Specialized Endorsement: New Jersey Educational Services Certificate with a sign language interpreting endorsement. • EIPA Standards: EIPA Certification with a minimum score of 3.0 or higher. • Educational Training: Completion of specialized Educational Interpreter Training courses: • Education: Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university (candidates with performance route certification will also be considered). • Specialized Knowledge: Proficiency specific to the language development of Deaf and hard-ofhearing children.
