Job Purpose: Design, fabricate and evaluate complex mechanical components and/or systems in a furniture manufacture environment. Analyze, develop and recommend design approaches necessary to meet production requirements for new or improved product and/or processes. Essential Functions: Analyze, develop and recommend design approaches necessary to meet production requirements for new or improved products and/or processes. Coordinate the activity of project staff in the development of drawings and documentation. Design, evaluate, and draw detailed part and assembly drawings using CAD software. Develop and monitor test procedures consistent with design criteria. Develop and test mechanical engineering theory and design. Compile and evaluate test data. Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers. Independently apply solutions of moderate scope and complexity, and perform and solve standard assignments. Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering/Tool & Die, Production, Purchasing, and Marketing on information to complete a project. Handle multiple projects with firm deadlines. Function as a team member. Must be flexible to perform other duties as assigned and required. QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES Required Qualifications: BS in engineering related field is preferred Related engineering design experience using Computer Aided Design software, including an understanding of tolerances, weld symbols, etc. Proficient with 3D modeling preferred. Familiarity with NC programming in a manufacturing environment preferred. Troubleshoot complex problems requiring ingenuity and innovation. Strong leadership, organization, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint. Experience in handling a high volume manufacturing environment is preferred. Highly motivated. ADA Requirements: Able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English. Able to use a computer for 8 hours with frequent motion of hand, wrist and fingers, due to typing, ten-key strokes and phone handling on a daily basis. Must wear protective equipment such as safety glasses when walking out in the manufacturing area.
