Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the General Maintenance Technician

performs general maintenance services and repairs for both inside and outside of facilities. In addition, the incumbent performs set up for conferences, meetings and special projects and events, as well as fulfill various work requests. The incumbent is also available to assist other maintenance personnel when needed or assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Responds to and complete general facility maintenance work requests including requests for minor repairs, minor electrical, minor painting, plumbing, room temperature adjustments and emergency cleaning projects.
  • Completes assignments based upon Work Request orders
  • Performs set up and break down for conferences, lectures, meetings and special events.
  • Cleans and repairs light fixtures; replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
  • Assists in emergency clean-ups, spills and snow removal.
  • Reports major repairs and maintenance work requests to the Work Request Center and follows-up with customer to ensure requests were completed.
  • Performs non-routine functions, various special projects and other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Uses best trade practices and safety procedures when using all hand and power tools of the trade
  • Requests applicable materials and chemicals to complete assigned tasks
  • Performs related and other department duties as required.

EQUIPMENT/ COMPUTER SKILLS: This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite software and Adobe Reader are required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Oversees the warehouse lead, movers and transportation staff in ensuring all products/deliveries are handled efficiently and effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and three (3) years of responsible custodian and/or janitorial work experience in meeting preparation, general maintenance and repairs.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record; and/or commercial driver's license highly desired.
  • Strong customer service skills and positive attitude.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have the ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength. Prolonged standing or walking is necessary in this position. Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and equipment. The employee is also required to have the ability to lift and carry weights of approximately forty-five pounds, utilizing safe lifting techniques.

WORKING CONDITIONS: This position operates in an industrial plant and collegial environment; potential to work near and with moving mechanical parts; exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, with regular exposure to fumes, dirt, airborne particles, hazardous materials and gases.
