Job Description


Position Summary

The role of the Data Warehouse Developer requires a background in data warehousing for reporting and dashboards (Business Objects), strong SQL skills (MS SQL Server), ETL (Data Integrator), debugging capabilities, strong team oriented work ethic, and an understanding of business objectives. This role provides access to essential data for multiple reporting and functional applications. This includes Business Objects, JD Edwards and our proprietary applications Acuity, Acuity Connect and Pulse. The analyst will create, maintain and grow products and services that help us achieve our critical strategic initiatives.

Essential Functions


  • Develop new tables and universes for the data warehouse used by Business Objects, Pulse, and Acuity.
  • Create stored procedures to effectively return datasets for multiple platforms.

Demonstrate a systemic thought process through all phases of software development.

Participate in open discussions during the analysis and design phases of development.

Create and Maintain

Optimize current databases, indexes, and stored procedures.

Create and maintain ETL processes using Data Integrator.

Create and maintain technical documentation when developing solutions.

Maintain and enhance existing software using the SDLC process.



  • Perform technical analysis and design for a given business requirement. This will include setting expectations for what will be needed to complete the project.
  • Create ad-hoc queries to assist the business and the technology group.
  • Analyze, debug and make changes to software when assigned.



Build a good rapport and maintain positive relationships with other team members, business analysts, outside customer contacts, and users.


Create efficient and scalable code.

Understanding business objectives.

Create well documented code.

Follow and contribute to software development best practices.

Participate in and conduct code reviews.

Supervisory Responsibility: Direct and Indirect

Must maintain confidentiality as this position has access to data used to operate the business.

Must possess the ability to take ownership over a task, demonstrating good organizational and time management skills.

Works independently, but meets with manager weekly to review projects.

Level of Analytical Thinking and Problem Solving Required

Must understand the abilities and limitations of various software platforms used within Best Vendors. This would include limitations with the database, language, device or end user capabilities.

Must be able to suggest solutions or alternatives when faced with complex business requirements or bug fixes.

Level of Judgment and Decision Making Required

Works on a combination of assigned and self-initiated projects, which could include ways to improve current solutions or processes.

Makes recommendations and takes action on improving system operations, performance and data integrity.

Understands usability and the end user experience, so to design a solution that will maximize the user experience.

Major Challenge(s)


  • Must be able to decipher incomplete or vague design specifications and determine how to create a solution that will meet or exceed the expected results.

Education and Experience


Bachelor's degree or combination of job experience and related course work (3-5 years business data experience).



  • Language specific or System certifications are a plus.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Enterprise reporting universe development.
  • Enterprise report writing.
  • MS SQL Server background.
  • ETL development.


Word, Excel, and Outlook.



  • JD Edwards experience or similar ERP system.
  • Business Objects experience.
  • Contacts



Works with management, analysts, and users to gather requirements and discuss solutions.

Will be required to attend design and planning meetings.


Maintain positive relationship with other sectors and users.


This position has no supervisory responsibilities.



  • Ability to take vague business requests and translate them to functional enhancements/products.
