Job Description

Electrical Engineer (Components) will be a technical focal point to the purchasing, project managers and design groups for alternate low cost, high quality components. To monitor and work problem component issues directly with the manufacturer and communicate status on non-conforming parts/suppliers across all programs.

 

Job Duties:

  • Evaluate bills of material for new customer orders and locate Equivalent form fit and function alternate sources for components; negotiate reduced lead times and improved pricing with component vendors.
  • Categorize and maintain each component into proper commodity code
  • Provide engineering, purchasing, quality, quoting and receiving inspection with component substitution support (i.e., obsolescence, long lead – Supporting test data)
  • Validate, enter, categorize and maintain component substitutions in business system
  • Process component related engineering changes (ECOs)
  • Resolve receiving discrepancies during incoming inspection
  • Generate technical documentation for distribution, review, and approval to internal and external customers
  • Transfer bills of material into business system
  • Understanding electronic component data sheets and their testing.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of radio electronic components and their specific testing.
  • Knowledge of electronic component part numbering schemes.
  • Intermediate level in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Ability to effectively communicate in all forms with others inside the organization
  • Ability to problem solve issues involving multiple variables and limited standardization
  • Ability to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to details to produce quality results
    • Support Design Engineering, Project Management and Purchasing in identifying, sourcing and the implementation of new/alternate form fit and Function components that is of equal or greater performance without compromising quality at a total cost savings
    • Focal person for all quality and functional issues that stem from components being purchased for manufacturing
    • Develop, implement and maintain a “Component Data Module” that will allow system users to identify like components used on other programs with their authorized manufacturers while standardizing the description entry for each commodity and ensuring data integrity
    • Monitor and drive PPM issues with the supply base in addition to helping them achieve “Dock to Stock” certified with ACR (in accordance to the vendor performance system)
    • Drive supplier selection strategies that will yield a supply base that can be used across all customer programs providing leverage cost savings
    • Ability to multitask effectively and adapt within a rapidly changing environment
    • Proactively communicate information or issues that may impact the product costs of manufacturability to all affected departments
    • Proactively research and monitor all component obsolescence issues and work with Supply Chain and Design Engineering on the migration path.
    • Knowledge of radio electronic components and their specific testing.
    • Knowledge of electronic component part numbering schemes.

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, with emphasis on electronic components.
