Job Description

Our Client, a non-for-profit community teaching hospital in Connecticut, is seeking a Registered Nurse, Emergency Department. The Registered Nurse, Step Down/Immediate Care will coordinate and deliver patient care. Provide supervision of non-RN personnel and act as a resource for ancillary staff on assigned unit.

 

Responsibilities:

· Provide direct patient care to a select group of patients and advocate on their behalf.

· Assess patient’s physical and psychosocial condition throughout the continuum of care.

· Collaborate with patient, family, and healthcare team in implementing plan of care.

· Provides education as indicated after assessing the learning needs of the patient and family.

· Evaluate patient outcomes, effectiveness of plan of care and readiness for discharge and/or continuing care. Revise plan of care as needed and appropriately refer for additional services where indicated.

· Maintain equipment and utilize supplies in a safe, cost effective manner.

· Participate in clinical research activities and demonstrates evidence base practice.

· Perform focused assessment of chief complaints of each patient in a timely manner according to established triage guidelines.

· Provides professional nursing care to patients of all age groups seeking critical, urgent, and non-urgent medical in the emergency department setting.

· Identify and manage life-sustaining physiologic functions in unstable patients.

· Understand dysrhythmia monitoring techniques including basic dysrhythmia interpretation and treatment.

· Perform drug dosage calculation, continuous medication infusion administration, and monitors patient reactions for medication effects.

· Perform venipuncture and inserts IV’s.

 

Requirements:

· Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

· Valid license as Registered Nurse in Connecticut.

· BSN strongly preferred.

· ACLS certification required by end of 1st year.

· PALS or ENPC certification by end of orientation period.

· BLS certification required.

· Performs accurate testing of quality control samples; ability to troubleshoot unacceptable results

· Maintain instruments per manufacturer's recommendation.

· Identify, report and document specimens that do not comply with the laboratory policies - hemolyzed, lipemic, ecteric

· Prepares specimens for analysis; centriguge and package as appropriate.

· Completes records, reports and other statistical data as required.

· Communicate appropriately with coworkers and providerss including nursing and physicians.

· Complies with safety procedures

· Other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager or Supervisor e.g. inventory control
