This is highly responsible managerial, administrative, and professional engineering position within the Public Works Division of the Utilities Department. The Employee in this position will report directly to the Assistant Utilities Director.
An employee in this classification is responsible for performing and supervising a variety of engineering assignments, which may include, but are not limited to, the water resources management, regulatory compliance and permitting, planning, design and construction of the City's various infrastructure including storm drainage, sanitary sewers and potable water systems, streets and other pavement systems, sidewalks, landscape and irrigation systems. Other duties may include exercising a high degree of technical knowledge and ability in applying principles of engineering to operations, or in coordinating efforts to assist in proper development, implementation and completion of major programs such as the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program.
Under the general direction of the Assistant Utilities Director, the incumbent exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment in selecting work methods and formulating recommendations to meet program needs, objectives and goals. The position requires the employee to perform supervisory and administrative duties in managing, coaching, and developing the Engineering Section of the Public Works Division.
