Job Description

The maintenance mechanic performs a full range of assignments using independent judgement to make decisions requiring the application of procedures and practices to specific work situations. Troubleshoots repairs and maintains heavy machinery.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Typical duties and responsibilities include the following

  • Industrial mechanical/ pipe fitting/ hydraulic repair
  • Welding, machining and other fabrication
  • Rigging, aligning machines and belt and pulley drives.
  • Various preventative maintenance tasks


The successful individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following qualifications are also desirable:

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance tasks on heavy equipment.
  • Capable of pipe fitting and hydraulic repairs.
  • Be willing to work off-shifts, weekends and overtime if required.
  • Journeyman status in the trade or equivalent experience in (industrial mechanical/ pipe fitting/ hydraulic repairs) or (mechanical trades).
  • Experience maintaining heavy industrial machinery.
  • Possess welding certifications AWS D14.1 (Industrial Mill crane welding)
  • Welder certified to ASTM & AISI A-53 as pertains to section IX of the boiler SMAW (Shield Metal Warc Welding)
  • MT252 Fluid mechanics course

Special Demands:

  • Be capable of regularly lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Be able to climb ladders and comfortable working in elevated environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, will be regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts
  • May be exposed to wet or humid conditions.
  • May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
  • May be regularly exposed to high noise environments.
  • May be exposed to extremely dusty environments.
  • May be exposed to chemicals used in the manufacturing process

Education / Training:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


  • High School Graduate and or GED


  • Possess welding certifications
  • Welder certified to ASTM & AISI A-53 as pertains to section IX of the boiler SMAW (Shield Metal Warc Welding)
  • MT252 Fluid Mechanics Course
  • Millwright Exam
