Job Description

Overview We are seeking a Facilities Technician to join our team at our Fort Irwin, California site to support our Space Communications Network Services Contract (DSN) with NASA. In this role, you will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation of control systems for the GDSCC power generation systems, fire detection systems, UPS, monitoring computer systems, and HVAC systems.

The Deep Space Network is NASA's international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never before seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it

Responsibilities What you'll do...

  • Perform preventive maintenance.
  • Perform monthly safety inspections of assigned buildings.
  • Troubleshoot equipment utilizing mechanical drawings and electronic schematics.
  • Read and understand PLC ladder logic.
  • Collect and provide analysis of technical data.
  • Collaborate with other departments as necessary to meet customer requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Extended work day.
  • Occasional shift work.
  • Must be able to work in Air Conditioned Computer room for extended shifts.
  • Interface with internal and external customers.

Major Job Activities include:
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Climbing to 300 ft.
  • Work outside in all weather conditions
  • Occasional shift work
  • Utilize common hand and power tools

Working Environment/Physical Activities include:

  • Work outside in extreme heat and cold
  • Confined spaces
  • Heights to 300 ft.
  • Continuous standing
  • Extended work day

Qualifications You'd be a great fit if...
  • High School diploma (or equivalent) and 6+ years of related experience.
  • 2+ years of technical training in the electronic field
  • 2+ years' experience with electronic troubleshooting, repair and maintenance.
  • Must have a working knowledge of PLCs.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook, DOS programs, Windows 98, Windows XP and MAXIMO.
  • A or B level Classifications will be weighted against applicable Job Training Guides.

  • Are able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Completion of an electrical safety program in accordance with OSHA and NFPA 70E.
