Job Description

VoteVets.org seeks an experienced advocate and political professional to serve as the Director of Government Relations. VoteVets.org, with more than 600,000 members in all fifty states, is the nation's largest progressive veterans organization. The mission of the Director of Government Relations is to advocate for progressive policies, foreign and domestic, through lifting the voices of veterans and military families at a state and national level. The ideal candidate is a self-starting, team player. The job is located in Washington, DC.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee VoteVets.org's legislative agenda and priorities
  • Establish and maintain relationships with elected officials and their staffs
  • Monitor legislative and political developments for opportunities and/or threats to the organization's legislative priorities
  • Represent VoteVets.org at coalition meetings; identify opportunities with new and existing partners for collaboration
  • Work with grant-funders to develop strategy for attaining mutual goals
  • Represent VoteVets.org in the media (TV, radio, print)

 

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Established record in advocacy and coalition building
  • Knowledge of issues affecting veterans and military families
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with social media platforms
  • Understanding of legislative and political procedures and processes
