~~Family Services of Westchester’s 55 programs reach more than 30,000 people a year including teens, children, adults, families affected by HIV/AIDS, and Latino immigrants. Our mission has been to strengthen and support families, children, and individuals at every stage of the life cycle. The Veterans’ Outreach and Support Project was established in January 2012 to meet the needs of veterans from all eras and their families without restrictions to service dates, discharge or dependency status. There are three programs that comprise the veterans department at FSW: The case management program, the Vet2Vet program, and the AmeriCorps ServiceWorks program.
The AmeriCorps ServiceWorks program engages veteran AmeriCorps members to strengthen and support the services provided by non-profit organizations. Veteran members have a choice of full-time or part-time service opportunities, depending on the needs of both the organization and the goals of the member. Americorps members receive a total stipend in the amount of $1000 to $12,000, depending on how many hours they serve. Members also receive an education award of anywhere from $1195 to $5645 when they have finished their terms of service. Additionally, work experience is gained, training is provided, as is the opportunity to continue to serve their communities and connect with other veterans.
