ROLE:   Accounting manager
PURPOSEPlans, organizes and implements full-cycle accounting operations to ensure accurate and timely accounting records, reports and related data.  Compiles monthly financial statements, management reports and analysis.   Offers suggestions for improvement of systems and processes.  Supervises accounting clerks and payroll clerks.  Provides management reporting to President, Board and Project Managers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise and assist with full-cycle accounting
  • Prepare and monitor budgets and cash flow projections.
  • Analyse and manage cash flow
  • Monitor compliance with local, state and federal licensing, reporting, recordkeeping and tax requirements
  • Recommend and implement improvements to policies and procedures, with a focus efficiency, internal controls and compliance with company policies and government regulations
  • Supervise accounting clerk duties and evaluate performance
  • Perform month end closing and maintain monthly closing workpaper package supporting major balance sheet accounts and analytic analysis of profit and loss accounts
  • Perform year end closing and preparation for CPA’s
  • Process payroll and prepare payroll reports functions (timecard input, preparing checks)
  • Preparation of other financial reports to assist owner
  • Perform other duties as required
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
  • Timely financial reports – number of days completed after month end
  • Accurate financial reports, with limited CPA journal entries at year end (depreciation, amortization, gain/loss) and minimal changes after distribution
    • $ change after initial closing
    • Number of journal entries after initial closing
  • Number of errors found by non-finance department personnel
  • Timeliness of response to requests for information
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • Understanding of laws, regulations and contractual requirements
  • Ability to conduct technical research and analysis
  • Team management skills – ability to effectively delegate task to accounting clerk and supervise those functions
