The Maintenance Mechanic has responsibilities to maintain, troubleshoot and repair a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment in a food processing environment. This position requires proficiency in multiple skill clusters, such as electrical controls, fluid power, mechanical systems, welding, fabrication and manufacturing processes. This person will perform medium to high-level machine systems troubleshooting and repair, and provide technical support for all phases of the operation. This work will be of average to considerable difficulty in the accomplishment of a variety of mechanical maintenance actions.

Seeking out ways to maximize efficiencies by eliminating the waste of valuable resources that directly impact our overall operating costs. You are instrumental to the manufacturing of Smithfield, Eckrich, Nathan’s Famous, and our other product brands, to meet the needs of our customers and consumers.   Identifies and implements Industrial Engineering activities, projects and initiatives of the facility.  Works and collaborates with IE Management and Plant Management to define, develop, and implement plant continuous improvement projects in all areas of plant operations.  Focuses on analysis and project implementation to optimize worker efficiency, yield improvement, waste reduction and workplace optimization along with accurate cost standards and procedures.

This position supports the plant controller in directing the accounting support to the production facility. Responsibilities include cost accounting, inventory control, accounts payable, payroll, billing, and preparation of plant financial and other control reports. Supports the maintenance of manufacturing, inventory and finished goods ledgers and cost accounting activities. Compiles and analyzes operating performance reports. Prepares and analyzes unusual items on financial reports.

Individual should have knowledge of industrial controls, PLC’s, instrumentation, VFD’s, HMI’s and three phase motor circuits. This position requires the ability to operate, test, troubleshoot and repair process equipment.  Basic knowledge of General Maintenance and Mechanical components of manufacturing equipment are also required.  The associate must be able to work in a team environment, or individually with little or no supervision.  Must comply with all Company SAFETY rules (LOCKOUT/TAGOUT, ETC), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), and all Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations.     

This position will act in concert with the Powerhouse Maintenance Supervisor to ensure that PM’s are completed, downtime events are responded to appropriately and providing “on the job” training (OJT).   Knowledge of operating, testing, troubleshooting and repairing ammonia-based refrigeration systems, and HVAC, stand-alone “rack” systems, and boiler and hot water systems.   Basic knowledge of General Maintenance and Electrical and Electronic Systems are also required.  The associate must be able to work in a team environment, or individually with little or no supervision.  Must comply with all Company SAFETY rules (LOCKOUT/TAGOUT, ETC), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), and all Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations.
