The Lab Technician tests in-process and finished product samples, and returns vital testing data to the concerned production areas in order for them to continue the production of customer and/or product specific polypropylene, while maintaining safety, integrity, and efficiency of the facility. Lab Technicians are responsible for maintenance, calibration and operation of laboratory test equipment and instrumentation to ensure accurate testing. The Lab Technicians must have thorough knowledge of the laboratory equipment, instruments and procedures required for testing, recording, and reporting data, and are responsible for trouble-shooting equipment, instruments, or testing problems. They must also work cooperatively with other Technicians as well as personnel of other departments and or plants to assure we are supplying in specification product to our clients. The Laboratory Technicians have the additional responsibility to aid in preparing and shipping pre-shipment or special samples to customers and R&T. They must follow all shipping regulations to prepare and ship the samples. These statements are intended to describe the general nature of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills and duties. Responsibilities Include: Testing and evaluating product per the standard protocol. Conducting investigations of out-of-specification standards and instrumentation. Receiving testing (Wet, Physical-Chemical, and Physical Properties) samples per the prescribed sampling schedules and on occasion non-routine sample analysis. Reviewing the test data for accuracy and conformance to specifications. Informing technicians, management, and affected operational unit of suspect instrumentation and/or data and provide insight on possible solutions. Entering the data into Lab Soft or other appropriate files, in the case of out of specification material, and communicating findings with operations team. Preparing the equipment or instruments for maintenance and coordinating the work with maintenance personnel to ensure the work is performed safely and to maintain continuity of operation. Performing tasks necessary to ensure the laboratory performs at optimal capacity and that the product meets quality specifications, while following all safety procedures (LO/TO, Permitting, WO, MOC, Contract Administration). Participating in plant safety initiatives, such as LMS, and others BBO, STAC, Safety Committees and housekeeping inspections, to take ownership of personal and co-worker safety. Participating in the review, validation, and training of procedures and instructions as needed and Assisting in the training of new employees as detailed in the training procedures and new instrumentation. Maintaining the laboratory’s supplies/inventory. Participating in and driving Braskem+ compliance with all 5 elements. Adhering to all HES policies and procedures. Completing SMP assignments on time. Achieving and maintaining certifications for all routine Q/C testing. Complying with all lab quality procedures and practices. Conducting routine QC testing. Running control standard per schedule and communicating our-of-control occurrences. Conducting routine maintenance and performs defined troubleshooting checks. Developing simple RTP’s and OPL’s. Using LIMS system to create samples, enter data and perform simple queries to see sit data BS in science, chemistry, biology is preferred; or Associate’s Degree with emphasis in science, biology, chemistry or product testing/analysis in laboratory applications PLUS 2 years of related work experience; or Minimum 5 years of experience of laboratory testing and analysis in chemical industry or manufacturing environment. Strong communication skills Computer skills Proficiency with EXCEL Demonstrated proficiency at analyzing data, trends, modeling, and troubleshooting issues. Strong multitasking skills Physically able to use standard safety equipment (rated for 300 lbs or less) Able to work a rotating shift and overtime as required. Able to work overtime when needed (including weekends & holidays). Work independently on routine lab tasks. Certified in all routine testing.
